Up until now, we’ve simply talked about standalone hybrid golf clubs that will improve your game within a very limited scope. We’ve talked about better control during shots that would normally take long irons, and we’ve talked about increased loft and backspin that will help you nail a shot onto the green with all sorts of hazards around (hybrids are excellent if the green is surrounded by water, sand, etc.

If one of these clubs is good, wouldn’t a hybrid golf club set be better? Yes, actually that’s a very good possibility depending on where you’re at with your game and where you want to go with it. If you’re serious about the game, you may very well consider going with a full set of hybrids. However, keep in mind that the cost is going to be significant compared with a bag that’s full of standard clubs and one or two hybrids for specific situations. A full hybrid set may cost hundreds of dollars, but if you’re serious about playing the game right, well, it may just work for you.

So, what makes up a set of hybrid golf clubs? To be honest, a hybrid set is a little bit different than a “standard” hybrid that looks like a wood. While a hybrid set will have several of those types of clubs included, that’s not the only thing in a hybrid repertoire. The clubs replacing the long irons will be basically what we’ve already talked about: Wood-type clubs that are hollow with low centers of gravity for better backspin and loft. They’ll also be flat-faced in order to increase control. However, as you get into the mid-iron range you’re going to see a few differences.

First, the clubs are going to start looking more like normal irons; they’ll be more wedge shaped, and they’re going to have higher visible lofts in order to get the ball up into the air with significant backspin over short distances. These clubs will also have lower centers of gravity, and will have a slight “hollow back” design instead of a fully-hollow construction. This will allow for better control and swing speed.

Moving into the short irons and wedges, the distinct and familiar iron shape remains, but these hybrid golf clubs will have a very distinct hollow back and increased loft. Their centers of gravity will be low for better backspin and control, as well.

Talk to your local golf pro for more information before purchasing a hybrid set.

Another leading manufacturer of hybrid golf clubs is Adams. These guys are somewhat new to the golf market, but they’ve already left quite a mark on the industry. Just like TaylorMade, Adams hybrid golf clubs are seen as industry-leading. While these clubs may be excellent as far as usability and reliability are concerned, the company also has a large selection of clubs that will match just about any need (just like TaylorMade). Because of this large selection, Adams has become a leading manufacturer of hybrids. People are flocking to these things left and right and are leaving their long irons at home (or straight up selling them on eBay!).

So, what should you look for when you’re going out and searching for an Adams club? Really, it’s going to be pretty much the same as if you were going for a TaylorMade or Callaway hybrid club. Look for overall fit and ease of swing as an overall priority when you go to the pro shop. Just like I said with the other types of clubs, go out there and hit some balls! The driving range is an excellent place to begin, but you’re probably also going to want to take the club out for a “spin” during a real game. If your pro shop will let you do that, that’s going to help your cause quite a bit.

Does your pro shop sell Adams? That’s a good question, and one you’ll have to look up yourself. There’s a good chance that they do, but some pro shops are limited in scope when it comes to the brands they sell. Club manufacturers will often give kickbacks to pro shops for selling their specific clubs over others. There’s nothing unethical about that practice, but it just means that you’ll get less in-store selection than if you went online. Even if your local pro shop doesn’t sell Adams hybrid clubs, there’s a good chance that another one nearby will. When in doubt, hit the road and track something down.

You can also find Adams hybrids online. The company offers a large amount of information about their clubs on the internet, which could help you make your decision before you buy. If you really want to keep things cheap, check out eBay or Amazon. Their deals often beat pro shops, and their selection is excellent. Have a look, and make sure that if you do decide to go with Adams, you buy from a reputable source!

If you’ve been keeping up with the world of golf (and have been doing your homework), you’ve probably noticed that TaylorMade hybrid golf clubs are gaining a lot of popularity lately. What makes TaylorMade clubs more popular than all the rest? Are they really better than other golf powerhouses like Callaway? Well, to be honest, probably not. While TaylorMade is an excellent company that puts out quality clubs, they’re not the only one in the business. Other companies put out hybrid clubs that are just as reputable and just as useful. So, what’s behind the popularity, really?

It’s simple: Selection. TaylorMade has a HUGE selection of hybrid golf clubs that are readily customizable and tailored (no pun intended) to many different playing styles. If you can figure out exactly where your weaknesses are with your game (everyone has some), there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to find a club that works for you. And no, I don’t work for TaylorMade…I’ve just seen their products and can stand behind them at least partly.

I’ll echo a warning that I gave on one of my last articles, however: If you haven’t already done this type of shopping (and haven’t already used hybrid clubs), please PLEASE do yourself a favor and don’t do your shopping online. I know it’s tempting to go off to craigslist or ebay and pick up the cheapest club on the market, but this is about more than money. This is about finding a club that will improve your game. Even if you have to spend a little bit of money to do it, wouldn’t you if you were serious about your game? I sure as heck would. Anyway, I digress.

The first thing you need to do (and again, I’m echoing what I said before) is go visit a pro shop or talk to someone knowledgeable about golf club selection. As much as I’d like to help, I’m not an expert (so, please don’t send me emails asking my opinion!). You’ll need to talk to someone with a significant amount of experience with hybrid clubs and their selection.

Finally, you’re going to need to test test test. Even if you’ve found that super popular TaylorMade hybrid golf club everyone loves, you shouldn’t buy it until you’ve at least gone out on the driving range and hit a couple buckets worth. If you can do more, that’s all the better.

If you’re considering going for a hybrid golf club instead of dealing with those tough to hit long irons, you may just be on the right track toward improving your game significantly. Many people have made the swap, including a number of professionals who are interested in just a little bit more control when on the course. Have you ever had a problem getting a shot up in the air with a significant amount of backspin? What about that tough 5 iron shot that just won’t let you get on the green? If either of those scenarios sounds familiar, it may just be time to make the switch.

What should you look for when you go out to select a hybrid golf club from an online store or pro shop? Naturally, you shouldn’t just go for the first one you come across; you’re going to need to do a significant amount of testing before making your first purchase. While these clubs are significantly more forgiving than a standard club, a hybrid club that’s not right for your playing technique and physique will be a waste of money. You need to get something that will fit your game; anything else isn’t going to result in any improved gameplay. You’re just going to end up struggling as much as before.

Luckily, selecting a hybrid golf club isn’t necessarily any different than selecting a normal golf club. First, you’ll need to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of your game before making your selection. What exactly are you struggling with? If you’re struggling with those long drives off the tee, chances are a hybrid club isn’t going to help you much. However, if you’re having a tough time with long irons, a hybrid club may just do the trick.

Make sure that you know why you’re buying it before making your purchase. Second, make sure that the club fits your height. Keep in mind that hybrid golf clubs have shafts that are shorter than traditional woods. In fact, they’ll be right about what you’d expect from a normal iron. This isn’t a show stopper by any stretch of the imagination; you’ll just have to keep that in mind when you’re doing your shopping.

Guys, I’ll be honest: If you’re not sure whether or not you’ll even need a hybrid in order to improve your game, visit a pro shop and ask. That’s what these pros are there for. Don’t be bashful; get in there and figure out what you need!

Hybrid golf clubs are becoming extremely popular with golfers of all player levels and abilities. Amateur golfers are finding their way to hybrid clubs in record numbers. While these clubs are most popular with players who only play recreationally, a large number of professional tour golfers have at least one hybrid club in their bags due to their unique usefulness and flexibility on the course. Hybrid golf clubs are becoming irreplaceable to many people, and have significantly improved the games of thousands of golfers of all experience levels.

So, what is a hybrid golf club? Is it some space-age club that’ll magically improve your game overnight? Absolutely not, but it can do wonders for your game if you have trouble with certain types of shots. If you’ve been having trouble with long iron shots, you may very well be interested in a hybrid club or two for your own bag.

Hybrid clubs are a mix (that is, a hybrid) between traditional woods and irons. In fact, they’ve been known to be able to replace long irons if you’re having trouble with those shots. While these clubs appear to be standard woods at first glance, there are significant differences that will make their use significantly more forgiving than a standard long iron. Instead of a solid slab of metal or wood, a hybrid club is traditionally made out of hollow steel, reducing its overall weight and allowing a faster swing speed. In order to make it significantly more forgiving than a traditional club, the face of the club is flat; you’ll likely notice that this is different from a rounded-face wood. This gives you a much larger area in which to hit the ball. It also increases the amount of control; slicing off into the rough doesn’t happen nearly as much with a hybrid club!

The center of gravity with a hybrid golf club is typically brought lower and to the rear of the club, giving you some additional loft when you hit the ball (this has the effect of increasing the loft, even though the club face doesn’t have much). Additionally, a hybrid club typically has grooves on the bottom, giving you a bit more control and allowing the club to “track” a bit more smoothly on the ground as you’re swinging toward the ball. If you’ve ever used a keel wood, you’ll likely recognize its usefulness.

Stick around…we’ll talk more about hybrid golf clubs as time goes on!
